CAUSES OF MALE INFERTILITY
Abnormal sperm production or function is the main reason. This happens due to undescended testicles, genetic defects and health issues like diabetes or various types of infections like chlamydia, gonorrhea, mumps or HIV. Enlarged veins in the testes (varicocele) and other venous disorders can also affect the quality of sperm.
The problem in sperm delivery can cause infertility too. This problem arises due to sexual disorders like premature ejaculation, certain genetic diseases like cystic fibrosis, blockage in the testicle and injury or infection in the reproductive organs.
Some environmental factors also contribute to male infertility. For example, over exposure to the environment having harmful pesticides, chemicals and radiation. Frequently exposing yourself to heat, such as saunas or hot tubs, can affect the sperm count. The harmful effects of smoking, drinking alcohol, addictive drugs, certain antibiotics, anabolic steroids etc., can affect fertility.
When treating cancers, radiation or chemotherapy affect sperm production, sometimes they affect severely.
